Chester Butler leaves Giants

Chester Butler has joined Bradford Bulls on a two-year deal, after a successful loan spell with the Red, Amber & Black. The centre or back-row joined the Bulls at the start of the season after two years with the Giants. He has since gone onto make 15 appearances for Bradford, scoring 4 tries.

Huddersfield Giants Managing Director, Richard Thewlis said “This is great news for Chester and the Bulls in my opinion. He endured a wretched time with us with injury and has battled back through adversity time after time and thoroughly deserves the opportunity to remain at one of the top clubs in the Championship.

"From the Giants perspective we believe we have depth in our back row area next year and with Chester needing (indeed deserving) week in week out Rugby he and his manager have been aware for some time that a permanent new home was needed.

"I had no doubt that the Bulls would want to retain him as he is a top class professional who will leave us without having cracked the Super league dream he came with back in 2020 due to injury in the main but with the opportunity now at the Bulls to re- establish himself as that competitions premier backrower. He leaves with our very best wishes for the future.”

Chester Butler said: “I am buzzing – to have signed for two years gives me security and Bradford is a great club to sign for, hopefully over the next two years we can get ourselves back to where we want to be as a club,”

“It is nice to have the two years for myself personally having been out for so long with injuries, this year I just wanted to get through and play as well as I can, I knew I wasn’t going to come back all guns blazing but I have progressed, built confidence and momentum and it gives me hope after a pre-season here I can make an impact next year."

Bradford Bulls Head Coach, Mark Dunning said: “I am delighted, I spoke last week about some signings to be announced and Chester is the first, the performances he’s dished up this year have been high quality, he is an experienced International player who brings versatility – he can play in the back row, middle and centre – he is a good bloke, he is good to have around the place which is a key part of our recruitment process.
